Since 2008, Glenburnie School has participated in the annual Terry Fox Run. Each year, students and teachers join together to celebrate one of Canada’s most inspiring heroes. Prior to the run, students take part in class activities where they have the opportunity to learn more about the life of Terry Fox. On the day of the run, which always coincides with the National School Run Day, students gather in the Gymnasium to watch an inspiring video about Terry Fox.

Two years ago, we were very fortunate to welcome a guest speaker from the Terry Fox Foundation who awarded our school with a five year participation banner, and also spoke to our students about Terry Fox.

Each year during the run, Glenburnie’s older students take leadership roles and run around the school field with younger students, helping them on a one-on-one basis. Each lap is counted, with the total number of laps run by each class tallied at the end of the day. This provides a little friendly competition among the homeroom classes. In addition to Glenburnie’s Terry Fox Run, many of our families also take part in local runs which are organized in the area.

Thank you to everyone in the Glenburnie Community who generously supported our Terry Fox Run this year. We are very happy to announce that we raised more money this year than we have for the last two years combined! Every day, and in every way, we are all helping to make a difference in our world!
