During the March Break, faculty members Han Chau and Tosh MacFarlane led 12 senior students on a science expedition, organized by Operation Wallacea, to the Peruvian area of the Amazon rain forest. The group completed field work which included counting indigenous species; pink and grey dolphin, fish (piranha), caiman, bats, Macaws, monkeys and other forest animals. The results of the group’s effort will be used to determine if the stewardship of this protected area of the Amazon is sustainable, and to see if climate change is having an effect on the animal populations in this area. The group was highly praised by the organizers of the study for their effort, cooperation and the great attitude they showed towards gathering the information needed during their field work.
