This year marked the sixth annual Upper Two Service Day. Each year all of Appleby’s Upper Two students, their advisors, and a group of Senior One student leaders, go into the local community to “Work hard. Get dirty and make change.” On May 1 Appleby partnered with Evergreen (a national not-for-profit environmental organization) and the Town of Oakville to continue the efforts Appleby students have worked on over the past three years at South Shell Park. This park is an important stopping over point for migratory songbirds as they return to their breeding grounds in the spring. Appleby students have planted native trees, shrubs, grasses and perennials to provide food and shelter for wildlife. The day also included a series of team challenges in which the advisor groups competed for the coveted ‘Green Cup’.
