In June of each year, the Senior Kindergarten students participate in a moving ceremony during which they receive a tie passed down by their Grade Eight Reading Buddy. The special relationship between the Senior Kindergarten and Grade Eight students is fostered during the year through frequent times spent together enjoying reading and writing activities. As the milestone of leaving Kindergarten to join the Primary Division of the school is reached, time is taken to celebrate the triumphs and successes of each student. The Grade Eight Buddies reflect upon their time together, and say a few meaningful words about the growth they have witnessed in their young buddy, and pass on a school tie to represent the new journey which lies ahead.
The theme of Glenburnie’s Tie Ceremony is based on the favourite story, “I Can Be Anything”. Throughout the year, students celebrate the “blooming” of themselves and each other as they acquire new skills, and shared special friendships. In addition to the tie presentations, the audience enjoys a slideshow which chronicles the year, and highlights many wonderful events. It is recommended to have tissues handy! The Kindergarten students also take great pleasure in performing a song and dance for their special guests. After a year filled with laughter and learning, the Tie Ceremony is a very special celebration of what has been achieved, and what has yet to come for these very special students.
