Over the weekend, the MacLachlan College MACtion Crew gave some of their own time to help the community. You know what they say, “the early bird gets the worm” and in this case we sure did! An 8:45am movie about determination and commitment really seemed to wake our bodies and minds up! If popcorn for breakfast wasn’t the best part, all the proceeds went towards Me to We! This awesome experience was known as “Community Day”. I’m not sure what was the best part, getting to bond with the MACtion Crew (people who all want to see change as much as I do), or knowing that this simple task that we all probably do on a regular basis actually benefited someone else’s life. We all left the theatre with a smile on our faces and a hint of determination in our hearts.
Later we all went to a local community shelter, called Safety Net, and help sort and organize clothing and food donations. It was amazing to see how many people donated their clothing and how this small task would benefit another person’s life in such a large way. It was a big eye opener for me to see how much of our daily lives we take for granted. As we all sat in a small room sorting through piles of clothing, I started to think we were asking the same question in our heads, ” What do I get out of doing this?”. The answer: nothing except a smile on a struggling person’s face… and that was truly the best part! A big thanks to Rachel P. for organizing this event and to Mrs. Syrota and Ms. Capan for allowing us to have this opportunity! On Saturday October 18th 2014, the MACtion Crew really saw a new meaning to “Me to We”.
