Thousands of children across Ontario will take part in the Ontario Library Association’s “Forest of Reading” program this year and the students of MacLachlan College will again be participating. The Association has set up an Awards Program that enables children to cast a ballot to choose the year’s best book in different age divisions. The three Awards that MacLachlan College has chosen to participate in this year are, the Blue Spruce Award for grades SK-2, the Silver Birch Award for grades 3-6 and the Red Maple Award for grades 6-8. The goals of these Award Programs are to: “… encourage and promote reading for pleasure. Also, to promote and bring forward an excellent selection of recent Canadian books to the attention of children and to encourage Canadian writing, Canadian authors and the improvement of reading skills”.
