On April 23 and 24, Appleby’s chess club competed in the Ontario High School Chess Championship at the University of Toronto. Appleby placed third overall in the Beginner Team category with Upper One students Ben Hu, Connor Schmehl and Bill Zhang, Senior One student Rain Xu and Senior Two student Marko Huang. Outstanding Appleby chess players won the following prizes: Beginner Division – Rain Xu (first place), Ben Hu (third place) and Intermediate Division – Senior Two student Dean Jin (first place).
