The joy of giving back is alive and well at Fern Hill,

although we do not fundraise for our own needs, we have always felt that it is important to give back to the community and those in need.

We teach our students the importance of philanthropy and encourage them to reach out at a local level and Joseph Brant Cheque Presentationto the international community. All students, even the youngest, are encouraged to notice when help is needed and ask themselves how they can provide that help?

Students learn that there are many ways to be philanthropic. It is a challenge for young children to directly connect their charitable efforts with those who benefit. They give money or raise money but they don’t see the end results.

Experiencing philanthropy in action

When possible, we encourage local charities to let Fern Hill students experience their help in action. Seeing the impact of helping inspires students to continue helping. Students love this aspect of Fern Hill life and become incredibly creative in how they use their time and resources to help. It may be as simple as making the school community aware of a need, or as elaborate as travelling to another country to help make a dream a reality.

From experience, we know that through these personal philanthropic efforts, Fern Hill students understand that they can have a lasting, positive impact on the lives of others.

Equally important, Fern Hill students experience the joy of giving back.
