Students in the Grade 9/10 Music class were treated to a special presentation by noted musician and composer, and MacLachlan parent, Claudio Vena. Claudio has performed with artists such as Paul Anka, Andrea Bocelli, Jim Cuddy, Placido Domingo, Roger Hodgson, Robert Michaels, Anne Murray, Patricia O’Callighan, Page and Plant, Luciano Pavarotti, Robert Pilon, Blue Rodeo, Rod Steward and Alfiei Zappacosta. He also appeared regularly on the CTV show Canadian Idol as a member of the Band during its’ 6 year run.
As a composer for film and television, Claudio has received a Gemini Award. Claudio shared a variety of film clips with our class and had the students think about what kind of music would best help “move the scene forward.’ He also shared the same video clips, but with the music he had composed, played, and recorded for these film projects. Through his presentation, students were able to learn about the factors involved in composing for film and about various avenues of employment in the music industry.
