Glenburnie School’s gymnasium was recently transformed into a magical theatre, as more than 85 students participated in the ambitious musical production, Willy Wonka Jr.  The score of this lively musical, based on the classic novel, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl, had the audience members tapping their toes and humming along to the many delightful tunes!  Audience members were very impressed by the outstanding talent and level of professionalism demonstrated by the Grades 4 to 8 students who made up the cast and crew.

Auditions for the play were held in December, prior to the holiday break.  Rehearsals commenced in January and were scheduled during lunch recess periods and after school.  The show was directed by three enthusiastic and dedicated teachers, and the exceptional choreography was created by Glenburnie School alumni, Jackie Burns.

The objective of the annual spring musical at Glenburnie School, is to create an exhilarating and hands-on theatrical opportunity for all participants.  Students as young as Grade 6 are given leadership opportunities to become involved as members of the stage and technical crew, set, prop, and costume design team, and as stage managers.  It is an incredibly empowering experience for everyone involved, and the memories and friendships made along the way are valued long after the curtain closes on the final performance.
