MacLachlan’s  Grade 6 class went on an overnight camping trip to the Mansfield Outdoor Centre and had a lot of fun learning about fire safety, tent building, and playing survival games. After camp was set up, students gathered tinder and branches to begin building fires to cook their lunch. They learned that the placement of the fire pit is important for safety, as well as the design and the placement of wood because of factors such as wind direction. Although they had to endure some rainy weather, orienteering, nature hikes, archery and swimming were all part of the adventure.
