MacLachlan College debaters concluded the 2013-2014 season on a high note Saturday, April 5 at Upper Canada College finishing 6th overall in team standings on the junior side and 10th overall on the senior side. There were 18 schools competing on Saturday with 36 debaters on both junior and senior sides taking part.

Coach Dominato observed that it has been some time since we’ve had such a  strong showing. Leading the way on the junior side in his first tournament appearance was Griffin (Grade 9) who finished 6th in the individual standings bringing home one of the coveted Fulford award certificates for his efforts. Hashim (Grade 9) finished 17th in the individual standings to complete the outstanding junior showing on the day.

On the senior side, also in her first appearance in a Fulford tournament, Ella(Grade 12) finished 14th out of 36 debaters. This is an outstanding finish in such a competitive field, given that many of the debaters from the Fulford Cup Debates go on to do well at Ontario and World competitions. Wajeeh finished 28th and received some very high scores for his round 1 debate reaching up into the 90s.

Coach Dominato was obviously pleased with the result commenting that,”these were all first-time Fulford players.” Musing further, “just think of what we can do with more experience.” He concluded by saying that, “We can compete with the best.”
