From March 8-21 a group of 14 Appleby students and faculty members Matthew Rudisi and Laura Hale participated in an International Service Project in Ecuador. They travelled to Ecuador’s largest city, Guayaquil, and worked in the small coastal village of Las Tunas. Students helped community members clear a local mangrove forest and construct informative signs in hopes of creating tourism revenue for the community. One of the cultural highlights was the opportunity to live with local Ecuadorian families for nine days in the small communities of Las Tunas and Puerto Rico.
