This summer, an energetic group of MacLachlan teachers, staff and family members put their vacation plans on hold to volunteer their time and energy during an inspiring service trip to the Dominican Republic.
Building on previous student service trips, the group collected and transported 900 pounds of humanitarian aid to several impoverished communities in the Dominican Republic. In addition to providing sewing machines, fabric, shoes, dental supplies and sporting equipment to several community centres, they also supplied the paint and painted 10 homes in a village outside of Puerto Plata.
An important focus of MacLachlan’s vision and philosophy is a commitment to instilling in students an eagerness to take action and give back to their local and global communities. MacLachlan’s high school students have participated in similar service projects building schools and community centres over the last two years resulting in rewarding experiences and strong bonds with the Dominican communities and people.
At the core of MacLachlan’s integrated philanthropy model is the concept of “Living Charity” where all members of the school community are encouraged to actively participate and give back. We also understand the importance of promoting an integrated philanthropy model within our staff. As we teach our students, we too must take action. It’s what we call “Taking MACtion.”
On a daily basis, we strive to develop a culture of service within our students that empowers them to make the world a better place. We are proud that so many members of our staff volunteered their personal time to participate and lead by example
