On March 7 Rotherglen School welcomed Jasteena Dhillon who volunteered her time to lend her expertise to Grade 7 and 8 students involved in Model United Nations (MUN). Ms. Dhillon has extensive expertise dealing with NGO’s, the United Nations and NATO. She was a representative in two sittings of the UN and collaborated with the UN on issues around crisis intervention.
Rotherglen students are preparing to participate in the annual MUN conference taking place at Appleby College on April 6. The MUN is an academic simulation of the United Nations that helps enhance student understanding of current events, international relations, and navigate through a UN agenda. Rotherglen students have won honorary mentions and top awards at past conferences.
Students learned about Ms. Dillon’s experiences in dealing with women’s rights, human rights and legal development issues for regions in crisis to help create stability. Some of the countries she has worked in include: Afghanistan, Southern Sudan, Iraq, South Africa, Sri Lanka and Indonesia. She has subject matter expertise on rights and development of minorities and marginalized groups including women, children and refugees in conflict and post-conflict settings.
