We are very excited to announce that as of March 28th, St. Mildred’s-Lightbourn School has been accepted as a Global Member of Round Square. Round Square is a UK registered charity that promotes in students a commitment to personal growth and responsibility through experiential learning and service to others. Its main goal is to help young people prepare for life by having them experience it in ways that necessitate courage, generosity, imagination, principle and resolution. Their motto is “Preparing young people for life through service, challenge, adventure and international understanding.”

This world-wide association of schools on five continents works to promote six IDEALS of learning – Internationalism, Democracy, Environment, Adventure, Leadership and Service – and all member schools are expected to incorporate these into their curriculum. SMLS is one of approximately one hundred member schools worldwide, representing roughly 60,000 students and 5,000 staff and faculty.

In the past we have been members at the Regional level. This upgraded status will further enhance the learning opportunities for our students by making available to them experiences on a global scale, from student leadership conferences at member schools to international community service projects. Global membership also offers an incredible network of likeminded educators worldwide for collaboration on an unprecedented scale for SMLS in terms of:

  • service learning
  • student exchanges
  • teacher exchanges
  • teleconferencing for academic enrichment and extension
  • teacher/student collaboration
  • broader cultural diversity
  • risk management practices and procedures (of a very high standard)

If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Judy Ross, our Director of Global Studies.
